I share your same sentiments. I also don't liked being locked into Windows Live & Bing. I am just so accustomed to Gmail & Google Search. I may hold out until some reviews are out, but my Xperia is crumbling in my hands as I said before...lol.

I jumped ship two months ago and went for an HTC Hero. I've been using Windows Mobile in all its forms since PocktPC 2002 (PPC 2003, 2003SE, WM5, WM6, WM6.5, WM6.5.3). But WP7 breaks everything I liked about Windows Mobile:

-Huge software catalogue (WM software won't run on WP7).
-Wide range of personalization options: HTC TouchFlo, Spb Mobile Shell, Winterface, etc. You're not locked with the same homescreen "one-size-fits-all".
-Open: you can install software downloaded from any source.
-Desktop synchronization.

This is all gone with WP7. So if I have to discard my old software and change the way I work with my PDA, I may as well change the OS it runs for one where I find the flexibility I require. And that's what I did.

I can't say that it's been a smooth transition, I've lost some functionality, but gained some as well.

Now I'm looking forward SpeeedReader on Android ;) .

P.D.: I'm not saying WP7 is bad, with 9 months before release many things can happen. But as things are now, and seem likely to be in the near future, Android seems a safer choice.
